Dev Journal – Entry 3

by on Nov.27, 2012, under Dev

Well, how the hell do you program some tricks ‘n’ traps when the physics engine doesn’t obey the laws of physics?

Answer(s): You re-write the engine source (loooong) or you hack a work-around (sometimes loooong).

We like efficiency. We like fast framerates, even on cowpat rigs. We like sweet!

In developing ATTA, as we have progressed, we have learned some neat tricks. But it’s annoying when the sales machinery decides to show them off coz they think that this’ll make ’em a fat dough-ball.

They even released a pre-ALPHA dev video (COMPLETE WITH A MIS-SPELLING OF “PREVIEW”) of level 9 (ATTA).

I said:

“…WTF are you releasing a pre-alpha play test video for ya —expletive– morons? I wish sales people were forced to drown in a quagmire of their own —expletive– shite and vomit. And then drink it… and then bring me beer… Leave me alone to get this —expletive–  game done, bastards.

Needless to say, I got my beer.

noshit

Are you taking the pish…?

BTW, don’t look at the video, coz I’m gonna change everything to be crap, just to piss off the sales creeps. (soz).

Dev Journal – Entry 2

Minimum and recommended specs posted:

http://retrofps.com/wordpress1/home-retro-fps/atta-system-specs/

Level 7 design commencing. By the design doc, I anticipate minimal issues since the scripters have done a good job at last.

Codebase for gibs state machine coming along.

Beginning work on app launcher and keymappings, graphics settings etc.
For all you Pascal fans out there, we’re using both Delphi and Lazarus for the front-end… no need to declare “unsafe code”!

Cha Cha Cha.

Dev Journal – Entry 1

Level 6 ATTA fleshed out.

GD: I’ll be making dev notes and comments as I see fit for public consumption here (sorry to sound over-pompous, but… whatever).

Once I get tech sorted out I’ll be revealing minimum specs for this game, e.g. processor, GPU, RAM, OS and DX ver.

Blog up and running at last.

Looking into nVidia, AMD and on-die Intel support.
nVidia DEFINITELY great, from 9800 onwards.
Investigating merging of shadows over static vs dynamic entities, baked lightmaps.
Scene management on an i5 2600K 3.4GHz, 8Gb RAM, nVidia GeForce 560 GTX 1Gb, looking to get to around 60k to 100k polys at 60 Hz.

No issues so far at x4 AA (using nVidia CP)

Post-processing hit on 2 and 3 pass hlsl shaders needs opt.

Announcement – ATTA Begins Development!

by on Nov.27, 2012, under A Terrible Truth: Anthropophagus

In September 2012, we announced that development on “A Terrible Truth: Anthropophagus™” or  ATTA™, had begun in ernest (and in the RetroFPS Dev Offices)!

ATTA

A Terrible Truth: Anthropophagus

Our lead developer, Gary Denyer, gives us a glimpse into the storyline of this First-Person Psychological Horror:   Gary: The main protagonist is a Scottish lad who tried to make good… rejecting his rich ancestral family background…

My name is Jivan Voldemort.

Although by my name you would never guess, I am from the outer hebridean island of Lewis, Scotland.

I am from an ancient ancestral family, a family whom I have tried to forget. I was never one to follow tradition.

I decided to pursue my life outwith the old country, and made my living in the United States.

My life was normal: a normal house, my own family: I was happy.

A few days ago my Mother called, leaving a frantic message for me. She said that they had come for her, that they were going to change her too…

“Scary shit, eh?”, remarked Gary. “The story has as much twists and turns as Rapunzels hair-do”, he added.

When asked what the ultimate goal of ATTA was, from a player perspective, Gary went on to say: “In ATTA we believe we have something that will truly be the ultimate pants – filler. We dearly want each person who plays ATTA to feel like they have to have three pairs of clean pants close at hand while they play…”
